15th May was International Family Day. We bring to you the different kinds of families and how the family enables the child development
Families can come in all kinds and sizes.
- Nuclear Families consist of two adults and at least one child
- Single Parent Families have a single parent who is raising the child
- Grandparent families involve the grandparents in raising the child/ children wherein the parents do not take this responsibility
- Childless families involve a couple who do not have kids. Even this is a kind of family unit
- Blended families are the result of having kids from previous marriage and having step kids from new marriage. This family is the result of blending different family members together
- Extended families or popularly known as joint families consist of grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts and other relatives all living together.
Families have a special role in a child’s development.
- Children get help in formation of attitudes and personality with the help of family members
- Families help give a sense of security and belongingness to the child
- Family stories give the children a sense of self worth
- Love, compassion and sharing are the binding effects of living in a family
- Understanding relationships and their context with the world can be understood through the family
- Social interaction and the context of self gets strengthened with the family
