Vacation or Education – How about both?

Picturing vacations to be the time to languish on the couch or on cool floors with TV binging and bringing cartloads of mangoes is not the only way to beat the vacation heat. While it is nice to have TV time and games; vacation can be educational.

Here’s how you can mix geography, history, science and mathematics in your vacation time. Travel means to awaken not only the eyes but also the cross-connection of various subjects that make up a place. However, not everything is tied up with travel, for even at home can the children be connected with education on vacation.

Here are a few activities that can get the best out of the vacation time:

  1. Kids who love to indulge in photography can click pictures and think of interesting captions. This develops language skills and helps give a purpose for kids to learn new ways of expressing and connecting pictures with words.
  2. A person who loves the outdoors and nature can collect different articles from outdoors and make a journal of each thing, stating facts about it and trivia information.
  3. A kid who loves art can make an art catalog of artists and different art forms. This can prove to be invaluable in assisting them with knowledge and information about different art formats and artists worldwide.
  4. Gaming isn’t bad as we think it to be. A child can make character cards for his favorite anime or animation characters and keep the information ready for sharing with other friends who can also have a buddy activity with them.
  5. Encourage the reading and writing habits of the kids. Kids can read books and learn about different genres of writing. They can also become aware of the different purposes of writing.
  6. Travel guide reading is also one of the ways to brush up the geographical data, historical facts, architectural marvels and also the life of the people from an economic, social and cultural perspective.
  7. The use of traditional maps instead of GPS or Google Maps can help critical skills in navigation and understanding the signs and symbols for additional life skills.
  8. A trip to a waterpark or amusement park can be a good lesson on physics and scientific experiences so that they can connect the subject knowledge with real life and everyday objects around them.
  9. If cruises or boat rides can be a great way to learn about gravity, buoyancy and the water-related dynamics.
  10. You can allocate a budget for purchasing from shops for important articles or materials so that the importance of money and finance in terms of saving and spending is understood.

All these activities not only help tide over the vacation but also provides a great educational benefit to the children.
